Dr. David Wilkie, Urogynaecologist
Dr. David Wilkie grew up in Vancouver, completed
his medical degree at UBC, and then interned
in New Zealand and England. He completed
his residency in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at
the University of British Columbia. Subspecialty
training in Urogynaecology followed at St. George’s
Hospital Medical School in London, England. He
is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians
and Surgeons of Canada.
Dr. Wilkie is a member of the International
Continence Society (ICS), the International Urogynaecologic
Association (IUGA) and the American Urogynecologic
Society (AUGS). He is the past vice-president
of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists
of Canada (SOGC) and is past president of the
Canadian Society for the Urogynaecologic and
Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (CSURPS).
Dr. Wilkie has a private practice on Vancouver’s
West side and investigates patients at the Bladder
Care Centre at UBC Hospital, part of Vancouver
Coastal Health Authority. He is a Clinical
Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and
Gynaecology, Faculty of Medicine, UBC, and is
active in teaching medical students and residents
in his field of Urogynaecology.
As a clinician and researcher, Dr. Wilkie presents
his findings on incontinence and prolapse surgery
at conferences nationally and internationally.
He has extensive experience with the surgery
for prolapse (protrusion of vaginal tissues)
and incontinence (leakage of urine with coughing
and sneezing). He has introduced several
newer minimally-invasive surgical techniques
to avoid hospitalization. Dr. Wilkie also
has a focus on cosmetic gynaecologic procedures
including labioplasty (reduction of excess labial
tissue) and vaginal rejuvenation (tightening
of the vaginal opening to improve sexual sensation).
