Do you do Back Surgery?
False Creek Surgical Centre has three neurosurgeons
whom are skilled at discectomy and laminectomy
surgery. We cannot perform surgery on the upper
cervical spine. The cervical spine area includes
the neck.
Do you do Gastric Bypass or Lap Banding
Surgery?
We do not perform this surgery here at False
Creek Surgical Centre because we cannot accommodate
the extended stay required following the procedure.
How long is the surgery?
This is dependent on the type of procedure and
varies between 1 to 6 hrs.
What type of Anaesthesia is used?
An anaethestist will be present during your
surgery. He or she will determine which anaesthesia
is most suitable for your surgery. We have capabilities
for general anaesthesia, spinal anaesthesia, and
local anaesthesia with sedation.
Can I go home on my own?
No. On discharge post-surgically you MUST be
accompanied by a responsible adult who may either
drive you home or accompany you home in a taxi.
Public transportation is not an option.
Do you provide post-nursing care?
Yes, if your surgery requires extensive post-operative
care we will help you organize a home care nurse.
Can I eat, drink or smoke before surgery?
No. Most surgical procedures require that you
refrain from eating past midnight; light fluids
may be taken up to 8 hours before surgery. In
terms of smoking, you should not smoke the day
of surgery, the best case scenario is to refrain
from smoking as long as you can prior to the date
of procedure.
When can I get back to work?
Many things lend to the recovery period, type
of surgical procedure, length of surgery and patient's
health. On average for short surgical procedures
1 to 2 weeks, lengthy procedures may require longer.
When can I go back to gym?
It depends on the procedure, for minor procedures,
we usually ask the patients to refrain from exercise
for 1 week to 10 days, other surgeries will require
up to a month. Please ask your surgeon what is
appropriate for you.
Is there swelling?
Yes, usually there is swelling after most surgical
procedures, the degree of swelling is dependent
upon the type of procedure .
